July is Parent Month - what have you done to connect with your parents this month? While National Parent Day is a fairly new holiday, the idea of celebrating all our parents have done for us is not. In today's article, we look at how to make Parent's Day a special part of your families activities this summer.
I'll also be out in the community, speaking on August 4th with therapists on homecare services after surgery at Soulstice Inspiring Wellness. Having an extra set of hands around the house while recovering from surgery can be one of the best investments someone can make, and we'll be sharing our tips and strategies. Have a group you would like me to present to? Contact me, I'd love to speak with your group.

Celebrating Parents Day
Every year we have a variety of celebrations that help us take notice of someone special in our lives. Mother's Day allows us to honor the special bond that is created between a mother and her child. Father's Day gives us the opportunity to think of the special times we've spend with our dads.
This month we celebrate Parents Day. Parents Day is a day that originated to give us the opportunity to focus on our families, and how parents work together to hold the family bond together. It's a time to thank those closest to us; those that supported us and stood by as role models in our lives.
At the national level, many activities are planned and carried out throughout July. The fourth Sunday of July is celebrated throughout cities, both in civic and faith-based organizations. You can also nominate your parents for a national Parents of the Year award.
On a more personal level, celebrate with your parents by spending the day in a fun activity. If you have children, make it a multi-generational activity, and create a bond between all of your family members.
Think back to memorable experience you had as a child, and reintroduce them. Maybe a day at the zoo. Or road trip into the mountains.
While experiences are often the most fun, especially for multi-generational families, don't let mobility hold you back. Instead of driving into the mountains, why not relive a past vacation through pictures? Scrapbooking can be fun for everyone, and bring everyone into the conversation. Stories are always fun for everyone, and can help bring back vivid memories that some may have forgotten.
Above all, have fun with it. Family dynamics change all the time. Even just a few hours can create a whole new set of memories, for you, your parents and your kids.

Eating Health: Greek Yogurt with Honey and Spices
A friend recently introduced me to Oikos Organic Greek Yogurt. First I noticed the thickness, the creaminess, the flavor. Then I read it has 0% fat, just 80 calories for a 5 oz serving, twice the protein of regular yogurt, and live cultures.....WOW...I was smitten!
For a dessert in the evening I like to top 1 cup of plain Greek Yogurt with 1 tsp of agave nectar, 1 cup of fresh fruit, and sliced almonds. Make this extra impressive by serving in a parfait glass. Add a sprig of fresh mint.
Following is a recipe from the Oikos Organic website
INGREDIENTS
· 2 16oz cups Vanilla Oikos Organic Greek Yogurt
· 1/2 tsp. cardamom
· 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
· 4 Tbs. honey
· 1/2 cup almonds, toasted and sliced
DIRECTIONS
Place 1 cup of yogurt in a serving bowl, sprinkle with spices, top with almonds and a drizzle of honey.
Yields
4 servings
