In many cases, the role of caregiving doesn’t come on quickly. There are signs along the way. You notice your mother doesn’t remember everything. Or your father can’t keep up with the household chores.

Caregiving for an aging parent or other loved one can and will be stressful. And as hard as it will be for you to jump in and take control over the situation, it will be equally as hard for your parent to relinquish his or her responsibilities and allow you to take the role of the “parent”.
In many cases, your loved one may not listen to you. They are the parent, they are in control, and it will always be that way. They aren’t ready to give any of that up anytime soon.
