Downsizing. It means different things to different people.
For some, the downsizing process begins once the kids leave home. There is no longer a need for a large family home, and many adapt to a simpler lifestyle in a home that matches their needs.
But for many others, the family home becomes a place of storage. It holds memories … and stuff. Lots of stuff.
Then comes a day when everything changes. Mom and dad suddenly need help. If they are going to remain in their home, they need to create a living environment that can provide safety and security. And they need it now.
Diving in yourself is always an option. But it’s difficult at best. Every item you pick up has meaning. Do you keep it? Do you get rid of it? And if you’re loved one is around while you do it, you may have an argument during the process too.
