Hiring In Home Help In Colorado

Posted on September 2nd, 2009.

Whether you are taking care of a spouse, a child taking care of a parent, or a friend taking care of a loved one, the job of caregiving can iStock_000000853503XSmall become overwhelming in time. There’s almost always a point in time when you start realizing you need help. In order to provide quality care, and maintain your own health, you have to reach out and ask for a helping hand.

Start by exploring your in home care options
In Colorado, you have many options to choose from. If your loved one is still doing well at home, but just needs assistance to remain in the home, an in home care provider might be your answer. The more help you need, the more you’ll need to look into other options, including assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and possibly even hospice care.

Create your wish list
Think back over the past week, or start a log for the coming week and list out your daily tasks. Where are you finding your overwhelm? Maybe its hard to keep a clean home, and take care of the outside landscaping too. Or maybe it’s difficult providing nutritious meals with the amount of appointments you have each week. Find areas that you are willing to release to someone else, and start creating a list of things someone else can help with.

Look at in home care companies
Talk to them about options and services. In many cases they may be able to help you in areas you never even dreamed of. If they provide light housekeeping, lunch and dinner meal preparation, and shuttling your loved one to and from appointments, what would that leave you time for? A day of shopping, or lunch with your friends. Most importantly, you’ll gain much needed time for yourself so you can be even better at your all-important caregiving role.

Interviewing the company and the caregiver
Start by finding out more about the company. Company policies will dictate how the caregiver provides services. When you’re comfortable with the company, move to the caregiver who will be working with you. Its important for both you and your loved one to feel comfortable with he or she in your home.

Start small, grow as needed
A reputable in home care company will be happy to start small with one or two services to give it a try. As your comfort level grows with the company and the caregiver, talk about other services. Expand as appropriate, and release more as you and your loved one need.
